The original base of School of Art and Design is the department of the industrial art design in Hubei Light Industrial College. It was established in 1978 and previously located in Mafangshan area of Wuhan. It was one of the pioneers of marginal design subjects established in the college of science in China. During its 30 years development, it has cultivated large number of outstanding students in art design and management with 20 former students holding the management position in the department of art and design at the universities in Hubei Province. They are director Tu Wei in Wuhan Science and Technology University, Prof. Hao Jian in Design Department of Wuhan University, Prof. Xing Yifeng in Art and Design Department of Huazhong Science and Technology University, He Fang in Art and Design School of Wuhan Polytechnic University, director Wang Shanglin, vice director Guo Liqun and Cheng Zhili in Art and Design School of Wuhan Engineering University，vice director Yang Gaoyu in Art School of Hubei University, director Zhang Yong in Hubei Vocational School. More than 80 graduates act as acedemic leaders and mostly at the famous universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Hangzhou, and Nanjing. Many become masters and successful entrepreneurs, such as Chen Fang .He won the international award; Zhou Yan , president, in Lichuang Brand Plan Company which is large in scale and influence; Li Xiaoquan ,president, Sheng Guangrun, vice-president, in Daye Industrial Design Company, who enjoyed high reputation among the art and design field. Famous designers spread all over the country, which forms a brand effect of "the Design of Hubei University of Technology" and won great honors in the field of industry design and art design education.

With the recognition and support of the provincial government and education office, the level of operation and the scale of Art and Design School have been continuously raised.

In 1996, the right of Master's degree to confer was authorized. In the same year, the Art and Design major was confirmed as the only key discipline in provincial art design category.

In1997, the course of the Product Modeling Design was approved as the provincial excellence course.

In June 1998, the experts of national education committee for undergraduate teaching evaluation came to inspect our school. They spoke highly of the teaching in our school. The group leader Prof. Huo Yalin wrote down the comment, "the direction of the teaching is tangible and the specialty is distinct."

In 1999, the school was ranked as the "advantageous subject and featured field" of Hubei Province.

In 2000, the Art and Design School passed the inspection of the key subject of Hubei Province.

In 2001, the art and design was approved by Hubei Provincial People's Government as the "Chutian Scholar Plan" which could recruit distinguished professors.

In April 2001, the key subject of Art and Design passed the inspection of the experts group from the National Education Ministry and regained the good evaluation of the experts. They gave the following comment-"the specialty is distinct and the achievement is prominent."

In March 2002, we invited Prof. Sun Shouqian from Zhejiang University to teach and conduct research on industrial design and digital media in our school.

In October 2003, the course of Product Modeling Design passed the provincial assessment and listed as National Excellent Course for application.

In December 2003, the art and design course was ranked as the undergraduate's brand major of Hubei Province.

In 2006, the course of Pattern Theory was elected as the elite course of Hubei Province.

In 2007, the course Packing Design was elected as t elite course of Hubei Province.

In October 2006, the Art and Design School passed the National Education Ministry' evaluation of undergraduate teaching and got excellent marks.

In December 2007, the demonstration center of Art and Design School received the title of "Demonstration Center of Universities in Hubei Province".

In January 2008, the Art and Design Course was authorized by Education and Finance Ministry as National Specialized Teaching Center.

Since the establishment of the School, the achievements in scientific study has been emphasized. The teaching logo is concept, horizon, creativity and effectiveness. The virtual pattern of " Using what has been learned and reaping what has been practiced" is encouraged. The teachers and students are encouraged to attend the social completions and contests.

The achievements in scientific research are highlighted. In the last 5 years, more than 500 academic papers were published, 8 of which were included in SCI, EI and ISTP. 68 academic books and 34 books for teaching were published. 28 items of design application research received national awards. 63 items received provincial rewards and other 142 items received other awards as well. 14 items became patent. The funds for scientific study were more then ￥6,000,000. More than 1000 scientific items won bids and were carried out in market. The devotion to the country and regional economic construction was highly praised all circles in the society.

There are 98 teachings stuff in our school. There are 80 teachers, among whom there are 10 professors, 23 associated professors and 23 lecturers. Teachers who are under 45 years of age hold Master or Ph.D.'s degrees. There are 2284 students, among whom there are 1851 undergraduates and 213 postgraduates. The school has 6 departments, 2 studios and a center. There are more than 65000 books and 510 different magazines in the school library. We have excellent teachers with abundant teaching and management experiences, good research environment and advanced teaching and practicing equipment. There are abundant books in the library. We also have many important academic and professional magazines and pioneer materials of both home and abroad.

During our 30 years 'development, we have educated 2765 undergraduates, 258 postgraduates and 5000 students of other disciplines. The employment status is above 90%. We provide 4 courses, including Art and Design (Graphic Design, Environment Art Design, Computer Art Design, Exhibition Design and Design of Decorative Art Design), Industrial Design (Industrial Design and Toy Design), and Advertisement and Animation. The courses for Master's Degree students include Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Environment Art Design, Decorative Art Design, Advertisement Design and Digital Media Design.

Besides the development of subjects, the school made great efforts to improve the teaching learning conditions. The modern comprehensive teaching building, the computer center, library and multi-media classrooms and multifunctional hall were established. In 2005, the University invested ￥40,000,000 to set up the new building of Art and Design inside the university. The building area covers 30,000 square meters. In August 2007, the Art and Design School moved into the new building. Currently, Art Design has been regarded as leading status in operation philosophy, schooling conditions & level, faculties and talents training model in Hubei province. We have achieved an advanced level among the National Universities of similar disciplines.

Going along with the reform and opening of China and the development of economy, we are ready to meet the competition and challenges of the 21st century, to strengthen the discipline construction and realize the great-leap-forward development. School of Management is the successor of Department of Business Administration in 1985 when the Hubei Institute of Technology set up. In 2004, with the Hubei Institute of Technology changed its name to Hubei University of Technology, Department of Business Administration had to adjust and rename to School of Management.

At present, the School of Management is the Subsidiary of Hubei University of Technology, with 7 undergraduate majors covered marketing, human resource management, financial management, accounting, information system，e-commerce, and administration，also with 3 diploma program including international business, accounting and marketing. What's more, business management and accounting major can be awarded a master's degree.

School of Management has a well-structured, academic echelon of 69 teaching staff including 6 professors, 27 associate professor, 28 lecturers, 8 teaching assistants, distributing in the four academic research team covering management information system, quality management, financial management and marketing theory.

Update to 2008, School of Management has more than 1,800 full-time undergraduate students and 350 international diploma students. Academic activity in international communication have carried out with many university of different countries, such as Japan, the Great Britain, the United States, Canada and other countries.

The School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Hubei University of Technology, was founded in 1978. It is an important teaching and research base with distinguish features in the university. In the school, there are four one-class subjects including the key discipline of Hubei Province - "Polymeric Materials Engineering" and the key discipline of the university - "Light Chemical Engineering". At undergraduate level, there are five specialties - "Polymeric Materials Engineering", "Light Chemical Engineering", "Chemical Engineering & Technology" (including two fields: Fine Chemicals and Industrial Analysis), "Environmental Engineering" (including three fields: Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Cleaner Production in Chemical Engineering & Light Industry), and "Materials Science & Engineering". Among them, "Polymeric Materials Engineering" has been elected as "Brand Specialty" of Hubei Province, and "Light Chemical Engineering" has been listed as the featured and focus specialty supported by the university. At graduate level, there are four specialties - "Materials Science", "Pulp and Paper Engineering", "Chemical Technology" and "Physics and Chemistry of Materials" (including 18 research fields). Among them, "Materials Science" has been given the right of master degree grant as one-class subject. Also there are two specialties for professional master of engineering - "Technology and Engineering of Light Industry" and "Materials Engineering". In 2001, the school passed the evaluation for the candidate units applying for the right of doctor degree grant organized by Hubei Province. Furthermore, Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry in the school has been elected as "Excellent Laboratory of Hubei Province". Three curricula, "Physical Chemistry", "Organic Chemistry" and "Principles of Chemical Engineering", have been established as key curricula of the university.

There are 86 faculty members and staffs in the school. Fifty eight percent of them are full professors and associate professors, and recently recruited faculty all are young talents with Ph. D. degree. Among them, there are 2 professors awarded as "Chutian" Scholarship Professors, 1 professor awarded as "Chutian" Lecture Professor, 1 faculty member honored as National Excellent Teacher, 2 faculty members awarded additional allowance by the state, 1 faculty member elected to The New Century Talent Scheme of Hubei Province, 1 faculty member awarded the title of Contributive Middle-Aged Expert of Hubei Province, 1 faculty member honored as Excellent Teacher of Hubei Province, and 1 faculty member elected to The "111" Talent Scheme of Hubei Province.

The school has three provincial or ministerial centers - "Technology & Engineering Center of Light Industrial" of Hubei Province, "Graduate Innovation Center of Cleaner Production" of Educational Ministry and "Demonstration Center of Basic Chemistry Experiment Teaching" of Hubei Province, including the laboratory area of over 1,200 square meters. The collected publications in the school have been identified as Grand One library collection on light industry at research grade. Furthermore, Membrane Separation Center and Membrane Technology Institute, supported by the specialties of "Environmental Protection" and "Chemical Engineering & Technology", Laboratory of Environment-Friendly Materials on the basis of the specialties of "Polymeric Materials Engineering", "Light Chemical Engineering" and "Materials Science & Engineering", are well-known in central China for the long tradition of excellence in engineering research and progeny's transforming.

Taking advantage of the technology on light industry, nowadays the school continuously tries its best to support the development of the regional economies. It has undertaken more than 120 projects supported by National, Provincial or Ministerial Foundations, respectively, including 5 projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation, 2 projects supported by National Torch Program, 4 projects supported by National Development and Reform Commission, 1 key bids-needed project of the provincial government, and 12 projects supported by Provincial Natural Science Foundation. In these years, 8 achievements have been awarded by the provincial or ministerial governments. Meanwhile, 12 manuscripts or textbooks and more than 800 papers have been published. With decades of development, the scientific researches in the school mainly focus on these fields: Polymeric Materials Process Engineering, Natural Materials, Biomass and Environmental Materials, Environmental Protection, Special Paper, Fine Chemicals and Membrane Materials.

Today the alumnus from the school are widely distributed in different fields at home and abroad, such as medical chemistry, light industry, textile industry, food & brewing industry, communications & electronics, materials industry, automotive manufacturing, military industry and other related industries, and make their contribution to the structure and development of national economies. The employment rate of graduating students has been over 94% for many years. The admission rate of graduate students, listed ahead in Hubei Province, has been connectively kept at 20% in the last 5 years, including 10% enrolled by famous universities each year.

Mechanical Engineering College was founded in 1985. After 20 years' development, it has been one of key and important colleges with moderate scale, rational majors, distinctive disciplines in Hubei University of Technology, it is full of vigor and pays equal attention to teaching and research.

The college comprises six departments, namely, the Departments of Mechanical Automation, Instrument Science and Quality Engineering, Material Processing Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Design Engineering. It also consists of three institutes: the Institutes of Mold CAD/CAM, Metallurgy and New Materials, Machinery and Electronic Engineering. Furthermore, it embraces the College Experiment Center, Wuhan Precision Mold Technology Engineering Research Center and Provincial Key Laboratory of Modern Manufacturing Quality Engineering. At present there are 114 staff members in the college, including 94 full-time teachers, 3 doctor supervisors, 30 postgraduate supervisors, 20 professors, and 37 associate professors.

Currently the college offers 6 BA degree courses and 6 master degree courses. The BA degree courses are Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, Measurement & Control Technology and Equipment, Material Forming and Control Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Industrial Design. The master degree courses are Measurement Technology and Equipment, Precision Instruments and Mechanology, Mechanical Design and Theory, Material Processing Engineering, Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, and Machinery and Electronic Engineering.  Instrument Science and Technology is a primary standard discipline of master degree. The disciplines of Instrument Science and Technology, Mechanical Design and Theory, Material Processing Engineering are provincial key disciplines. The college emphasizes interdisciplinary set, relying on the disciplines of Measurement Technology and Equipment, Precision Instruments and Machinery, Mechanical Design and Theory, and Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, the discipline groups named "Modern Manufacturing Quality Engineering" has been constructed.

The main courses of Industrial Design major: Engineering mechanics, Engineering graphics, Foundation of mechanical design, Sketch, Product forming design, Industry product mold design, Ergonomics, Plane formation, Design aesthetics, 3D formation, Display design, Computer aided design, and so on.

School of Computer Science of Hubei University of Technology, which was found in September 2004, has recently established four undergraduate specialties such as computer science and technology, soft engineering, network engineering and digital media. It received conferral right of master degree education base of computer application in 2000. And the specialty computer application technology was evaluated as a provincial course in 2001. The first class discipline computer science and technology, and the second discipline educational technology became master degree education base of provincial programs construction in 2005. The school gained conferral right of master degree education base of computer application for teaching staff of secondary vocational schools at the same year, and engineering master degree of computer science and technology in 2006. The specialty computer application technology was evaluated as a provincial course again in 2006.

The school owns perfect education and experimental facilities such as computer network laboratory, computer hardware laboratory, soft engineering laboratory and computer information security laboratory.

The school, which takes discipline construction as core, has established four research directions such as database theory and application, computer information security, computer control technology and computer cooperative work, and computer virtual reality technology.

The school has undertaken college student software design competition of Hubei University of Technology ever since its establishment, exploring a way to accumulating students' experience of project practice by professional competition. It was awarded a 3rd-class prize of 2006 National Simulation Competition, and a 3rd-class prize of 2007 National Robot Competition, and an outstanding prize in final of Changchun area of Asia of 2007 International College Student Programming Competition.

The School of Economics, Politics & Law has three Bachelor's degree study programs as Finance, International economics and trade and Insurance, four Master's degree study programs as Politics, Industrial Economics, Marxism in China and Ideological and political education. With Department of Finance, Department of International economics and trade, Section of Political theory and Hubei Circular Economy Research Center, the school has developed into an important base of humanities and economics research in Hubei University of Technology.

It is well known that the school has the biggest faculty-level library in our university, where collected 23000 books, 150 professional newspaper and Journals. The Finance Stimulation Lab and International trade training center have been established for students to practice Real-time simulation and in-depth study, for lecturers to enjoy the high-tech service for their teaching, research work. School of Foreign Languages has a teachingstaff of 100, of whom 95 are full-time teachers with significant educationalexperience including 3 full professors, 13 associate professors, and a group ofyoung and middle-aged outstanding lecturers. About one-third of the teachers furtheredtheir study in Britain, America, New Zealand, Finland, Austrilia, and so on.Over 10 young teachers won prizes in Young Teachers' Teaching Contest heldevery other year in Hubei University of Technology. In the past three years,the school has undertaken 15 scientific research projects both at national andprovincial levels, and 31 books and 216 research papers have been published.
